Video Content, YouTube, and 2015

Earlier this week YouTube posted what is essentially their year in review video, ‘YouTube Rewind: Turn Down for 2014’. You’re welcome to check out the video by clicking the link, or watch it below but what the video does is feature some of the most popular trends and videos of the year. It currently has 22+ million views. Check out the video below:
So, why am I linking you to YouTube’s 2014 review video? To help inspire and motivate you! Let’s take a look at some numbers. According to YouTube’s statistics page, more than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month and, according to Nielsen, YouTube reaches more US adults ages 18-34 than any cable network. Think that could be a useful bit of information for your company?
Online video is quickly becoming an even more integral component of digital communications. If you’re company, brand, organization does not have a YouTube channel yet, it might be time to rethink your strategy. However, while the numbers are encouraging, it does not guarantee that any online video content you produce is going to go viral. A good rule to follow is to produce quality content that provides legitimate value to your stakeholders and customers.
We’ve written blogs in the past about viral videos, including this great one from my colleague Kalyn and we here at the Caster office love YouTube. I think the most difficult hurdle for companies and brands is carving out the time to produce content, but it can be done.
