Kristen Norton Joins Caster Communications as Fall 2016 Intern
Experience, experience, experience. It seems that word has been popping up in my life more and more often in recent months. Whether I’ve been applying for internships or researching post-grad job opportunities, it seems everyone is looking for someone who has a lot of it. Thankfully, I’m lucky enough to say that I’ve had a few amazing internship opportunities in the past few years that have lead me to be hired as the newest intern at Caster Communications.
I am a senior at the University of Rhode Island majoring in communication studies and minoring in journalism. Throughout my years at URI, I’ve taken many classes focused on media, popular culture, and human communication. Originally from Bloomfield, New Jersey, I’ve spent my whole life just 15 minutes outside of New York City. This has led me to countless NYC adventures that made me appreciate all that the fast-paced entertainment and media industries have to offer. From participating in a live taping of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to interviewing a Viacom executive for an assignment in one of my communications classes, I’ve grown fascinated with everything pop-culture. I hope to incorporate that into a future career in either LA or right at home in NYC.
I’ve held numerous intern titles ranging from Social Media Marketing Intern to Content and Media Intern, but in between those two I got the experience of a lifetime at Sony Music Entertainment. I was hired as a summer Promotion and Marketing Intern in NYC. I got to learn about the world of entertainment from behind the scenes, and it was something I will always look back on and appreciate. It solidified that I was in the right major and made me realize that if you work for your dreams, anything is possible.
Throughout my internship experiences, I’ve learned a lot about how businesses operate, but I’ve also gotten the chance to hold a lot of responsibilities at a young age. To sum it up, I’d like to say I have experience in marketing, public relations, social media management, event planning, branding, entertainment news, and communication. I’d like to use everything I’ve learned to hopefully land a job at a major media company. One thing is for sure, I need to have a job where I am constantly interacting with people because I love to socialize. It wouldn’t hurt to travel either since I would love to see the world.
I’ve never interned at a PR, marketing, and social media agency before, but I know even from the first few days of my internship that Caster Communications is top-notch. Since Caster’s clients are mainly technology-based, I know I’ll learn about a whole other world that is booming now and will be dominating in the years to come. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for me! Outside of school and work, I love living a healthy lifestyle. I like being active so I work out a lot, and I enjoy cooking healthy recipes and trying new foods. You can find me scrolling through my Facebook feed watching food videos at pretty much any point during the day. I love adventuring around the URI area as well since I live right on the water here at school.
