The Benefits of Building Your Network
When it comes to Public Relations it’s not just about maintaining the reputation and awareness of your business, it’s also about the face (or faces) behind your brand. Working on your personal relationships and building your network, can bring endless opportunities to you and your business.
My husband is one of the best networkers I know, so I thought he would be the perfect person to provide some advice on the subject. Below are a few ways that he has found success from networking to build his business.
Become a Member of Your Local Chamber of Commerce
If your interest is building your business locally, joining a chamber of commerce is a worthy investment and a great way to meet other local professionals from a broad range of industries. The main goal of any chamber of commerce is to help local businesses grow and prosper and they do so by hosting regular networking events at local businesses. Members can take advantage of the events to mingle and meet other like-minded professionals in the area. They also host award and charity galas, offering further opportunities for you to network and highlight your business.
Join a Networking Group
Most cities also have a number of networking groups that you can join and attend regular meetings and events. Some networking groups are specific to an industry such as Human Resources, Builders, Finance etc. that allow you to learn and mentor (or be mentored) by those in a similar career, while others are simply geographic, allowing you to meet professionals from a variety of industries.
Attend or Exhibit at Industry Events and Shows
Anyone who has ever attended a trade show can speak to the benefits of attending and exhibiting at industry events and shows. Not only is it a great opportunity to highlight your brand, your latest offerings and make a splash with your customers and the media by making major announcements, it’s also a great place to meet new faces, potential customers, and have quality face-time with those you work with on a regular basis from afar.
Putting yourself out there, and building relationships – plus your credibility – is always worth the time invested. Overtime you will see the positive effects. You and your brand will become top of mind by those in your network. Not only does that mean they are more likely to do business with you, they are also more likely to refer others your way.
