How to Activate a Facebook Cover Video
A short blog post for today on a pretty cool new feature Facebook recently rolled out. Facebook has been really interested in video content lately and now, they’re allowing personal pages and business pages to update their old cover photo with a cover video.
A solid example of what the change looks like can be found on the Facebook Page for the Netflix show Narcos. The cover video fittingly depicts bundles of money scrolling from left to right on loop.
How does it work?
The process is very similar to the way current Facebook cover photos work now. Facebook suggests your cover video be 820 x 312 pixels in dimension, can be anywhere from 20 seconds to 90 seconds long, and can loop in any fashion you’d like. Uploading a cover video is easy, for reference check out the screen shot below from our DIY smart home security system client abode systems.
So far it only looks like this feature can be accessed via the desktop client of Facebook but I expect Facebook to continue playing with the feature to figure out how they can grant access to more of their mobile users. One thing is for sure, the Facebook cover video is definitely an attention grabber. In an official statement on the new feature, Facebook had the following to say:
“By making cover video available, we want to help you create more engaging interaction and drive more rich experience for your audience by letting you spotlight your creative content in one of the most prominent space: your Page cover.”
What do you think of the new feature? Is a Facebook cover video something you’d like to explore for your business? What would your cover video be for your business? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below or feel free to connect with us on Twitter at @CasterComm or with me @CasterPete.
