Hunter Douglas Enhances PowerView with Smarter Access, New Motorization, and Expanded Power Options
New York, NY—May 13, 2025 — Hunter Douglas, a leading manufacturer and marketer of custom window treatments, today announces the roll out of a series of enhancements to the PowerView® Automation system. From smarter control options to more powerful motorization and streamlined power solutions, each update to the PowerView Automation system has been engineered to give integrators greater flexibility and lasting value in the field.
The following updates represent the first wave of a multi-phase rollout focused on empowering the CI channel with purpose-built features that help integrators meet the demands of real-world projects.
Smarter Control: PowerView App Adds Granular Home Access Management
The PowerView App is receiving a major usability update with the addition of new ways to manage basic access. Previously, the PowerView app offered two permission tiers: “Complete Access” – allowing full control over all shades, scenes, schedules, and settings – or “Basic Access”, which permitted operation of all existing shades and scenes with no additional modification capabilities.
This home management feature is available when users download the latest version of the PowerView app. With this update homeowners can unlock more precise control over who can operate the shades, and when. Basic Access users can now be restricted by both specific room and/or time duration. This enhancement makes it easier to accommodate a wide-variety of real-world scenarios. From managing short-term rentals, limiting access for children, or granting temporary control to a guest or service provider inside the home, this functionality enables more tailored automation setups, further aligning PowerView more closely with the dynamic lifestyle and privacy preferences of today’s homeowners.
More Muscle, Less Noise: PowerView XL Motor
An all-new motor upgrade – the PowerView XL Motor – is launching across three popular shade lines: Designer Roller and Screen Shades, Designer Banded Shades, and Alustra® Woven Textures Roller Shades. Developed in collaboration with the roller and screen product teams, the PowerView XL Motor marks a significant leap forward in shade motorization – delivering the strength, quiet operation, and reliability that custom integrators need for large-scale window treatments.
With double the torque of its predecessor, the PowerView XL Motor has been designed specifically to accommodate larger, heavier shades, empowering integrators to confidently spec motorized solutions for expansive windows (up to 156”W x 180”H) without sacrificing performance. This upgrade helps create a more cohesive design experience throughout the home, enabling motorization on widow sizes that previously would have required alternative solutions or additional support hardware.
The Powerview XL Motor is as quiet as it is strong. Operating at approximately 10 decibels lower than previous versions, it is the quietest motor Hunter Douglas has ever introduced. For projects where clean aesthetics and quiet performance are non-negotiable, the XL Motor offers a streamlined solution for spring assist in most scenarios.
Simplified Power: Internal Rechargeable Battery Expansion and Solar Charging Enhancements
Building on the success of the Internal Rechargeable Battery (IRB) adoption in Designer Roller and Screen Shades, Hunter Douglas is expanding IRB compatibility to additional shades styles including: Duette® and Applause® Honeycomb Shades and Vignette® Modern Roman Shades (Stacking Style). This expansion provides integrators greater flexibility when designing spaces with limitations such as mounting depth, and the ability to offer clients all the benefits of a built-in, low-maintenance power source.
All new IRB-equipped products will use the universal swivel magnetic charging adaptor, creating a consistent and user-friendly charging experience across shade types. Alternatively, all new IRB products are designed to seamlessly connect to the PowerView Solar Charger, eliminating the need for charging in most cases. Together, these updates support a cleaner install, making it easier for integrators to deliver a low-maintenance, smart shading solution.
“The PowerView updates we’re introducing this Spring are all about purposeful innovation. We’ve focused on making life easier for integrators and more seamless for the end user and we’re excited to continue to roll out additional updates that bring value across the board.” said Scott Stephenson, Senior Director of Product, Global Motorization at Hunter Douglas.
