Crestron Launches Two Next-Generation DIN Rail Lighting Modules Engineered for the LED Era

New 8-Channel Universal Switch and 4-Channel Universal Dimmer introduce the most significant advancements in Crestron’s centralized lighting hardware offerings by cutting DIN enclosure requirements in half, eliminating inter-device wiring, and offering commissioning without a laptop

Rockleigh, NJ – November 4, 2026 – Crestron Electronics, a global leader in advanced home automation, today announced two new lighting portfolio solutions, the 8-Channel Universal Switch (DIN-8SWU8) and the 4-Channel Universal Dimmer (DIN-4DIMU4). Designed with the historical complexity of centralized residential lighting projects in mind, these modules replace multiple legacy devices and reduce panel sizes by half to support faster installation workflows.

Lighting continues to draw attention across the industry. In the 2026 Professional Smart Home Market Analysis by CEDIA, respondents in both the US and the UK most frequently cited the lighting category as a business opportunity for the year ahead. The new Crestron DIN Rail lighting modules are a solution poised to help dealers take advantage of this opportunity. Intentionally designed as companion modules with a shared platform and form factor, these two modules are more versatile, more compact solutions that simplify the Crestron centralized residential lighting portfolio. Dealers now have the 8-Channel Universal Switch to handle every switching application, and the 4-Channel Universal Dimmer to handle every dimming application, reducing the stock they need to keep on hand.

“Almost every project we see is now LED, and we are building the control hardware to lead what comes next,” said Michael Short, VP of Residential at Crestron. “We set out to give our dealers two solutions that shape how lighting projects are designed and installed. That meant introducing smaller panels, faster wiring, and the flexibility to handle many load types on any job.”

At a 6M DIN rail footprint, these new DIN Rail lighting modules are the most compact and capable switching and dimming solutions that Crestron has introduced to the category. The solutions add the Module-to-Module (M2M) connectivity that has become standard across all Crestron DIN devices, eliminating inter-device Cresnet® communications and override cabling. With full front-panel configuration via RGB LEDs, dealers are able to commission the devices locally without a laptop. Installation time is further accelerated with spring terminal wiring that can accept passthrough connections up to 12 AWG on all live and switched live connections.

The 8-Channel Universal Switch is a relay-based device capable of handling both switching and bi-directional motor control, making it suitable for many load types. The 4-Channel Universal Dimmer supports LED, MLV, ELV, incandescent, fluorescent, and motors with a 0-watt minimum load and independent multi-phase inputs per channel. Both solutions deliver flexible operating modes that allow them to work locally without a control system or be programmed as part of a Crestron Home® system or through custom Crestron controls using SIMPL.
